ESET NOD32 issue
Hi, I'm using ESET's NOD32 and intermittently find the ekrn.exe process running, usually shortly after boot-up when there are no schedule NOD32 scan runs scheduled at that time of day. It bogs down the machine considerably and I can't kill it. Anyone else seen this?
Thanks in advance...

I am running NOD and the ekrn service runs all the time. My pc is 2.6 Ghz Pentium 4 and I don't notice any slow downs.

I concur with lunarlander. I use ESET Smart Security and the process runs at all times, without using any CPU.

NOD32 performs what it calls an 'Automatic startup file check' and I notice the effect it has on my system.

If you go to Help and Support you can read about the startup check and see the various types of files included in the check and the levels of priority given to the task. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found out how to adjust the priority but you could, if you want, make a search or post a query at the official Eset Forum at Wilders Security Forums; http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=88

In NOD32 v. 4.x, the settings for automatic scan are found under the Tools menu in the Scheduler sub-menu. You can click on one the the scheduled tasks, click the Edit button and walk through a set of menus with priority settings, etc.

By default, the startup scan runs at logon and whenever the threat database is updated. Also, the database update is scheduled to run at logon. Depending on the speed of the computer in question and Internet connection availability and performance. It can take a while to get the entire process finished. Personally, I'd generally advise against changing the default system tasks without a really good reason.
