hey guys, i have some sensitive information on my machine regarding work.

does anyone know if it's possible for Microsoft Security Essentials to report data back to Microsoft on filenames etc?

This might help answer:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_es...aspx?mkt=en-us

Be sure to read the section on Microsoft SpyNet.

You don't have to opt in to SpyNet.
And it isn't like they are going to take your files from you. If the program did that, everyone in the World would know about it by now and wouldn't even consider using the software.

I don't have a problem with it.

You can change the recommended Microsoft membership setting (from basic to advanced and back) at any time by using the options provided in Microsoft Security Essentials. However, to continue using Microsoft Security Essentials, you will need to remain a member of this online community.
Have you found a way to opt out?

I found this. It doesn't provide a way for you to officially "opt-out" but it has info on blocking SpyNet access from MSE.

Peace...

one might trust Microsoft BUT its Subsidiaries? Who knows what country that is and how trustful those people are?

Hard to trust anyone when this can happen
