Zone Alarm Free
I have a Dell PC OS windows XP service pack 3. I have recently bought wireless back up drive but my zonelarm (free) is preventing it from accessing my computer to do the automatic backups. What do I have to do to allow access. It works when ZA is switched off and I am told that I have to alter the settings on the ZA but don't know how to do this. Can some kind soul please take me thro' this procedure?I should add that normally when the box comes up for permission to access the Internetfor whatever programme it might be there is a small box to tick(check) to always allow access. I tick this box but the message doesn't get through to ZA as the request box comes up every time. I hope this doesn't sound too muddled.

Have looked on this site as you suggest but it doesn't really help me other than to tell me to get rid of ZoneAlarm, what other free firewall do you suggest is the windows firewall sufficient?

I would recommend Comodo. It is free, and has an additional feature called Defence+, which is a host intrution detection system.

I would not recommend XP's built in firewall. It doesnt provide outbound blocking. Outbound blocking is for times when an unknown program or malware tries to call out to the internet. ( malware phone home and download some more malware ) Comodo has a whitelist of programs which it allows outbound, and for times it doesnt know what to do, it will ask you.

I have now removed Zone Alarm and installed Comodo firewall as per the advice given, however I still cannot connect to the click free wireless device.
