I'm looking forward to getting myself a better, newer graphics card.
I was hoping to max out Battlefield 3 & Modern Warfare 3 on a 1680x1050 20" widescreen monitor, but you know maybe soon someday go to 1920x1080 or 1920x1200.

For convenience here's my system:

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb Black Edition 3.0~Ghz
Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P
4 GB of DDR2
Two 1-Terabyte HDD's running in Raid0 (for a 2-terabyte machine)
Corsair 750TX PSU
Nvidia GeForce N9800GT

TL;DR. I need to decide on a AMD video card (I can't do SLI on my mobo) to play games at maximum settings, smoothly. I play a lot of competitive gaming and I want the ATI 6850's in CrossFireX, but at the same time I thought of the 6950.

I hear the 6850's in CrossfireX are much better than a single 6950, but apparently the 6950 runs almost 40 frames faster in Bad Company 2? Beings Battlefield 3 will run on an engine like BC2's, I'm thinking the 6950 would be a better choice. I'm trying to keep it at $300 or lower here. I really can't decide. I want more frames, and higher settings. Please help!

I would go with a single 6950 card. IMO sli/crossfire is nothing more than a gimmick to sell more cards. The tech is NOT new; in fact it dates from the late 90s when FX was making multiple gpus on a single card.

One of my systems uses that exact same board with a 955; very good mb. Do make sure you have the latest release bios since it improves ahci.

Yes I heard the 6950 is also better at DX11; that's probably what I'll go for and when they're cheaper I'll add another for fun!
