Could these be the culprits?

mark, even with all services disabled, it did not start properly, so we can safely say its not the services.

now, how am i gonna get those drivers if foxconn's site isnt working?

I don't understand. you said earlier it worked with a clean boot. You should therefore be able to follow the microsoft guide to isolate the driver or service that is causing the problem.

Yeah, I would second Screamer. The computer will run better with XP, and installing XP is simpler than isolating a driver issue.

yea, im planning to buy a new pc soon anyway, i''ll put win7 on that.
i just wanted to get this one running so someone else can use it, i mean, its fast, just not strong.
its still great for web surfing, movies, and some games.

buuut, im a gamer, so i need a powerful rig.

this machine will be fine with xp, doesnt really need seven.

sooooo, moral of the story, dont try to upgrade an old pc to win7.

im keeping this thread open though, for if xp gives errors.

Okay, here i am again.

let me tell you what happened.

installing XP took me quite long, because i had to work alot, but that all went just fine.

now, after the installation, it started just fine.

after installing drivers, it started just fine.

after enabling my USB hub, and downloading drivers for that, it started just fine.

but then it froze up, while installing my LAN-card (integrated) drivers.
now, the connection between those two reminded me of something suspicious i saw.

one of my USB hubs, had the same IRQ as my LAN card.

after disabling the USB hub, it started just fine.

i havent used the USB hub yet, so we'll have to see about that.
but this is probably what's been screwing stuff up.

also, the 4 remaining USB hubs altogether only used 2 IRQ's
is this normal for usb controllers? or is this causing my USB problems?

last but not least.
my Device Manager shows that my SM bus controller is not updated properly, windows couldnt do it itself.
so after some googling i found out that it was my chipset driver.

now, how do i install chipset drivers?
just like, for example, a graphics driver, or is there more to it?

its the AMD 690G + SB 600 Chipset

okay, XP is running decently.

but were getting back to the start question, because, using my usb's still freezes the pc.

any ideas?

also, my "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" drivers wont update, its telling me access is denied.
ive downloaded the driver setup from the Realtek website, but when attempting to install it, the computer freezes up.

this is kind of interesting, it does this freezing with both the usb controller disabled and enabled.

something strange is going on here.


also, ive ordered the parts for my new pc.
putting it together shouldnt be a problem.

Okay, got the drivers updated, problem is, it now causes startup freezes, just like the USB usage.

i think there might be some selective Motherboard damage.

damage in the USB and audio hardware, which only crashes the pc when theyre activated.

or a recent microsoft update F'd it up
