Possible hardware failure. Games running slowly
OK, I wasn't sure if this is the correct forum, but basically I just purchased a second-hand lap-top mainly for uni work, off eBay, (works perfectly for just that) and I installed The Sims 3 (yes, student living...I know) on it and it was really low-end graphics(?) was confused, because my lap-top is a Core 2 Duo machine (?) with 2GB RAM, (more than enough for Sims 3), then I installed Sims 2 and it was even choppier than Sims 3, was really confused, could my hardware be shoddy? Or should I revert back to XP to gain better gaming graphics with my machine, what should I do? Guidance please?

You only have integrated Intel graphics, they're not well suited to gaming.

Aside from that you need to install Service Packs 1 and 2 for Vista, they should improve performance as well as fix compatibility issues and add new features. Once you have those two service packs installed you should continue to run Microsoft Update to get all the updates, including the optional ones.

Then update the chipset drivers first; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...&DownloadType=

Then update the graphics driver to the latest version, here's the latest version from Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...adType=Drivers
If that one fails to install then you may need to go to Toshiba to get the latest drivers that they provide(generally an older version).

You should update the Realtek drivers too: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false (top driver)

I wouldn't advise against downgrading to Windows XP.

Also post the full model number of the laptop from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. There should be a P200-102a number and probably a number like PSA-003330; post all that info.

Yeah, I upgraded and did everything you said I should Triple6, and sure enough The Sims 2 is still running the same choppy frame rate. It's a relatively new laptop, yes second hand, but it's Toshiba, and I remember when my sister got a new Toshiba lap-top back in '06, it ran Sims 2 very smoothly, among other games, and that was an older model than this one. Furthermore, a dual core processor at 2GHz, and 2 GB ram and a reasonable on-board graphics adapter is more than enough to run a game released in 2004, with non-choppy frame rates. Would downgrading to XP make any form of difference?

Well downgrading to XP would indeed be a downgrade, XP is become more and more dated. It may help, or may not, the hardware will still be the same.

Newer expansions have slightly higher requirements I think.

While the GMA graphics are supported, they are the weakest supported graphics in the list and you need to run the game at low settings on a lower resolution.

Another thing to consider is that if the laptop is running hot it may be throttling down performance. Make sure to clean out the vents and ensure the fan is working.

The other laptop may have had graphics from ATI or NVIDIA and/or a faster processor to compensate.
