Hi, I'm having problems setting up my Canon Pixma 4840 printer on my iMac. I have already contacted Canon and downloaded the latest driver for my operating system. Thing is, I'm relatively new to Mac and although I've managed to set up everything else I regularly use, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install this printer!

I have installed the disk as well but the computer doesn't even pick up that the printer is connected and turned on. When I go to system preferences>printers it's empty.

Can somebody please help me?

Did you start installing the printer driver software before connecting the printer to your iMac?
That's the correct way to do it. You then connect the printer to your iMac and turn the printer on only when you see the prompt on the screen.

Many people have made the mistake of fully connecting the printer and turning it on before installing the driver software.
When that occurs it can be a real pain to get the printer installed at all until every trace of the driver files have been removed.
