Solved: External Hard drive Replacement
Hey guys! I was just curious as to how to replace my external hard drive. Basically I have a 500 gb hd and I want to replace it with a 1 TB and sell the 500 gb, but I have a lot of things installed on the 500 gb (not using it as my main hard drive of course). Anyways, my question is: is it possible to transfer all my stuff into the 1 tb and then just change the partitions so that it directs to the one tb? if that is possible can anyone instruct me on how to do so? thank you!

Yes. Copy all your files and folders to the new drive, disconnect the old drive, and then go to Disk Management and change the drive letter of the new one to whatever the old one was.

Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management

or go to Start > Run, and type:

diskmgmt.msc

I know it sounds too easy, like there ought to be some volume ID or drive serial number involved somewhere. But I have done it umpteen times. So long as the drive has the same letter, all the paths and shortcuts will go to the right place.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
