I'm in the market for a new hard drive and this year I don't know what to go for. Normally, I go for Caviar Black and everything's good. This year though, with the floods in southeast Asia, the rising prices, and the drop in quality, I am not sure what to do.

I am currently looking at 1-2 TB WD Caviar Blacks, but they do seem to have a higher than usual failure rate according to Newegg reviews.

Don't mind which brand I come across myself as I have all sort. WD is pretty quiet and robust and could probably be a preferred option. I have just never been able to work a hard disk to its death yet.

I use all types, too. I've had the worst luck with Seagate. I've used WD and Hitachi mostly. I tend to favor WD over the others simply because they have quickly replaced drives I have sent to them, usually with larger ones.

The larger the drive, the more frequent the failure rate (or so it seems).

I would definitely go with Western Digital.

They may be a bit pricey, but the quality is still there.

It does seem that way. I think they rush them to market too fast.
