Was your computer home built or a big box computer like Dell or HP?

What do you use your computer for?

What is your budget?

The motherboard in your specs is old and
not really worth thowing money at to upgrade.
Especially since it has an old AGP video card slot.
You probably want to start from the case up.
Parts really depend on what you want it to do
and your budget.
If you are using an IDE hard drive,you may not
be able to use it with some newer motherboards without
an IDE adapter card.
Might look around for some combo sales on sites like newegg and tiger direct.

There is a quad core and six core deal at the bottom for $100.
You will probably want a sata hard drive and PCI express X16 video card,
some memory,which is pretty cheap right now.
You will also want a good 80+ certified power supply to handle the load.
A lot of motherboards these days have HD audio headers that wont
work with older AC97 case front panels.
So basically you are looking at building a new computer rather than wasting
money trying to upgrade that one.

You will need windows to install on it also.

The ASUS A8V-MX motherboard in that old desktop supports a maximum of 2048 MB(2 GB) of DDR PC3200 RAM and has an AGP 8x slot for installing a video card.

If you're planning to continue using Windows XP in it, maxing out the RAM and upgrading the VIA integrated graphics to a video card is all the money and effort that I would put into it.

You didn't mention what the wattage of the power supply is, so that may limit the type of video card that you can install.

If you're considering doing a full hardware upgrade to that old desktop, you're fighting a losing battle and would be better off buying a new computer.

actually i am in class 9th and preparing to by a laptop in next 2 years so till then i am wishing to upgrade my pc to some extent.my budget is max-100$ which atleast should be able to give me atleast 256 mb graphic card 512 ram and whatever possible .

I've upgraded a number of old desktops that have a limited wattage power supply.

An AGP video card with 256 MB of video memory and heatsink cooling(no electrical fan) has worked well for me.

I also prefer the NVIDIA GeForce 6200 / 8400 GS chipset models.

Actually i,m not so good in these hardwares so if my budget is 100$ so please in normal language pleasse explain how can i get my computer upgraded atleast till some extent should i buy a cheap new motherboard and does in needs to change my procesor also or i should just find harwares compatible with my specs

You can use an older AGP graphics card that will be better
than your onboard graphics,but your still not looking
at being able to play newer games.
You will probably need to upgrade your power supply to do it.

Your motherboard is capable of using a dual core processor
and the X2 3800+ is going pretty cheap on ebay now.

Faster than the 3000+.
I am still using one in my HTPC.
Another 1 gb memory would help.
If you are using 2X512Mb memory boards,then you would have to replace them
with 2X1GB for max memory.
Although these parts would make the system somewhat faster,it still won't really
be a gaming machine.
Within your budget that is the best I can do.......

It's going to cost you a lot more than $100.00 to upgrade that old desktop with a video card, RAM, processor, power supply, etc..
