Solved: Best GPU for an AMD Athlon XP 3200+
Hello all. I was wondering if there is any better video card for my computer. I understand that I can't buy the nicest AGP GPU out there since my processor will not allow me to make full use of it. I have a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ performance rated at 3.34 GHz. I am going to upgrade to 3 GBs of RAM soon, and I want a newer video card with 512mb of memory and a better core and memory clock. I currently have a GeForce 7800. I have a 450W PSU as well.

Do you mean that you only have a AGP slot on the motherboard?

I see most of your prehistoric builds have Windows 7 Premium installed.

Maybe investing in newer hardware rather that expensive Windows 7 licenses would offer better results.
Chasing 4 generations old tech can't be too rewarding.

Thanks so much for your sarcasm. I was given the Win 7 upgrades. I don't see why you can't offer some useful help instead of making suggestions that I am already aware of. If you do not have useful help, post elsewhere.

You are not going to get any better video card than you already have with the mobo & power supply that you have in that computer
You already have just about the top of the range AGP card there is
You can try a geforce 6200 but you aren't likely to see much if any improvemnet
You have to realise that there comes a limit to cost effective upgrading and a 4 generation old computer has really reached it

Yes I understand. Why however would I get a 6200 if I have a 7800?

6200 comes in 512mb or 1gb versions, where 7800 only comes in 256mb, but as I said you are unlikely to see any difference

You original post asked for a graphics card with more memory but a 7800 is about the best you can hope to get on that computer
