Acer aspire 5542 boot up problems
Hi all,

hope this is in the right bit of the forum, apologies if it isnt.

My sister's acer aspire 5542 is having start up/boot up problems.
She had a bsod on it the other week and it hasn't lit up since only intermittently. When it does finally turn on it stays on long enough to get to the desktop then freezes or goes off. I've testing the battery and power supply both were fine. Seems like an overheating problem to me but i checked CPU, changed thermal paste still intermittent boot ups. I've only been succesful in getting into the event logs once and there were a few error and warning logs about BIOS being out of date so the EC couldnt communicate, there was also an error 37 about processor being limited by the system firmware...? unfortunately the laptop shut down and i havent been able to get into the OS since so have been unable to do a bios update to see if that helps...

can anyone help with some ideas of what to try next to keep the laptop on or shall i just call it a day with it?

any help would be much appreciate!
thanks

Can you install the BIOS via a thumbdrive?
