Unhappy Cd ROM Drive not working
My samsung CD ROM Drive refuses to recognise any cd now.... i was playing smackdown on my pc when the game suddenly hung up. i exited it, shut down my pc n when i restarted it after some time, i found my cd drive doesnt recognise any cd. when i double click on the cd drive ( E:\) in My Computer, i get an error saying "E:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready" . this inspite of having put a cd in the drive
when i boot up the pc, i can see samsung cd-rom below the name of my hard disk on the first black screen which comes when we boot the pc. please help
i checked in Mycomputer>properties>device manager... but there it shows my cd drive to be "working perfectly"
please help me
my system :
win98 FE
128 mb ram
intel p3 processor

Hi,
It could be a loose IDE cable....open up your computer and make sure the IDE cable is connected firmly into the back of your drive

Thumbs up It's started working.....wheepee
hii rosh and paul selhi......... u know what..... i let my pc rest for an hour and a half..... opened the cabinet.... tightened all the cables everywhere.... n booted!!!
there it is.... my cd drive recognises all my cds now.... geez! i was scared to the bone just thinking how furious my dad would've been if i told him " we gotta get a new cd drive"
i guess it was some temporary problem.... perhaps due to the fact that my pc was on since morning..... or maybe smth else.
as of now... all's fine
thanks for the help, n now i know one thing.... often the best way to deal with pc problems is to stay away from the pc for a couple of hours..... believe me i've had to do that a couple of times in the past when my pc refused to boot after been on for a long time...... it acts normal once its had its share of rest
thanks again.
cheers,
umesh

i have a lil doubt.... does extended use of low quality cds which i use to play games affect the life of cd-drives?? i was told this today afternoon by one of my friends....hope thats not true

another good technique is to open your cupboard and reach for a baseball bat, it's amazing how quickly the PC will "get it's act together"

I wouldnt think the time would matter...you said you tightened cables after waiting..that was your solution right there most likely...the only time time comes into play is with overheating components...if however you are talking about the psychological effect of walking away..then yes..it can help...sometimes cables become lose..just from slight movement of your tower...its weird..but tightening usually does the trick

yep rosh......maybe it was the tightening which did the trick ..... or as u said overheating could have been the culprit too.... anyways i'm glad the prob has been solved...
thankx for the input
cheers,
umesh
