I have found out another vital piece of info! The vid card works great on his comp, he benchmarked at 10,000 he said. I need to get a new mobo and DDR for numbers like that. But the good news is we know it cant be the card. Its my machine... so now what could it be? Would it possibly have something to do with OpenGL or Direct draw? Thats what my friend thinks. I think we almost might have it solved guys and gals! Keep up the great work and advice! Thankyou very very much!

If the card works in another computer then :
1.possible problem with the AGP port ( told you couple posts back to check the speed of the agp bus in BIOS ). If the voodoo card that you had tried and work is the AGP kind as well disregard )
2. If you are able to boot ( see the RAM check , BIOS info etc..) and see the windoze splash screen , but crappy video display in regular windoze, it's some sort of driver problem. Might wanna download the lastest drivers ( 40 something if i'm not mistaken from nvidia.com--- of course if you haven't d/l already )
3.If you are able to load windoze in SAFE MODE and have no problem ( even though the colors are crappy )- again looks like a driver problem.
So try and restart in regular mode, install again the lastest drivers.then go ahead and install DirectX 9.0 b and see if the problem still there. While we're at it , might wanna use the "dxdiag" utility ( build in windoze, just run "dxdiag " ) and test the 2D and 3 D. See if you past the tests.
4. If all this don't apply to your problem, repost with EXACT description of what is going on ( i.e -- i start the computer. computer passes the RAM check , windoze splash screen shows up etc..etc.. )

bad news for me. Ive had it. I spent the entire evening and early morning... almost 6am now... 11hrs I decided to just completely do a clean install of windows xp pro. Cant get it to boot windows cd, find the fix for that, get boot disks for xp. done. Boot with bootdisk to fix cd error put last floppy in and get systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll error. Find that fix it says i need to make a Automated System Restore disk (ARS) says to go in the backup prog of accessories\systemtools\backup then click next, then restore files, but there is no back up files on the comp, or i cant find them? Please continue to help... i think im almost back to square one with this any and all help is greatly appreciated.

If you did a clean install, there wouldn't be any backup files.......unless I'm misunderstanding, which at this hour on Saturday is a distinct possibility

Well.... I successfully formated. Everything is working fine again. Windows xp reinstalled. Video card works great. Now to reinstall all my 25 gigs of games and progs LOL...sigh... I hate to say that formatting may only be the only solution to this problem. Formatting doesn't really "fix" anything as we all know. Format C: = "I give up." I wish it didnt come to that, but cest la vie, thats computers. Work great for weeks, months, or even years, and than one day its totally screwed. Well thanks again for helping all. Till i have another problem which, hopefully will be a long long time from now.

Happy putin'
