Question wizard cannot find the necessary software
I installed a fire wire port for a video camera a couple of weeks ago and had a similar unresolved issue... the computer ran fine and my geek friend couldn’t figure it out, so I been sitting on this problem and here it is again.

I am now trying to install Plextor PX-716UF external DVD burner Dimension 8250 XP Pro
When I try to connect/add a new device (Scanner, DVD burner, video camera) the screen tells me that I do not need a driver as my Windows XP already has the driver.

I continue to get the message that the driver is not available.
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver
During start up, the wizard tries to find the info and always fails.
I then click and get this message
Cannot Install this Hardware
The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software

In the device manager, the IEEE firewire, Epsom Scanner, and Plextor (shown as USB storage device) are displayed under ‘other devices’ and each has a yellow question mark to the left of it.
I have uninstalled, rebooted and nothing has changed.
I have also reset the bios to EPP.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

It is odd that XP won't install those two items, all I can suggest is that maybe windows has been damage in some way and you might have to either do a repair or reinstall XP

Didn't the Card come with a Driver Disk???

If not, check the manufacturer's website to see if you can download a driver.
