E-Machine W2785 Service Manual
Hey guys,

A friend my mom works with gave me 2 desktop computers and a laptop that won't work. I'm trying to get the EMachine to work but it seems futile... The Mobo is fried and unless I wanna fork over 40 bucks for them to tell me it will cost 140 dollars to buy one of there mobos (No joke, a mobo for the old thing is 130-140 dollars direct from EMachine!!) I would like to find a service manual to check out some further specs on it.

I know that it appears to be an ATX (Possibly) sized motherboard with a Socket A processor type (For the AMD Anthlon XP 2700+).

It should b easy to replace the motherboard, Socket A is an older architecture and a mobo with it only costs about 20-35 dollars on Ebay

If you would like to know, the other computer I have no clue what is wrong and don't really care (Old HP computer with ME) and the Compaq Laptop needs a new power brick and screen as the current screen appears to have gotten wet inside. I don't know about repairing the laptop, the parts cost a bit.

This place looks cool, I hope to maybe lay down some roots.

Thanks!
Christopher

I have had several eMachines of that vintage come thru . . everyone had ruptured capacitors . . eMachines used a really poor powersupply as well . . If you do replace the motherboard ( almost any MATX, Socket A will do ) suggest you also replace the powersupply.

eMachines has poor support. I don't think you'll find a service manual or anything similar for one. In most cases you won't even find drivers for many of their computers.

All you really need to know is that the motherboard needs to be Socket A, take DDR RAM, and supports the Athlon XP 2700+.

And yes, you should replace the power supply too. Its actually very common for eMachine motherboards to fail, and they power supplies are really poor. Power supply is just a standard sized ATX12V or newer spec(20 pin main and possibly additional 12Volt 4 pin if the replacement motherboard needs one which it likely will if you get a newer one).

Get this: The people who owned it either took the power source apart or had someone else do it :P. So when I got the PSU, it had no case on it and parts were falling out! Thankfully I keep at 450 watt one laying around.

Triple6,

I read several posts were you said that and I must agree. In fact, when people buy one I most of the time say "Goodluck getting it fixed" in a polite manner.

As for the drivers, they are easy to find man . Go to there website and it is about the only thing I found helpful. Only problem was, Vista drivers are hard to locate.

As for the quality of parts, yep. In fact, I saw this issue on another forum and they did pretty much everything I did except one guy claimed he left it up overnight running and it came back... But for how long? Mwuahahaha.

-------------------------------------------------

Either way, MATX or ATX size? I dunno what size this is currently, but I could always switch cases (I think I have one laying around)

Thanks guy =).

Actually there are several models that have no drivers listed for them. The T4852 is one of those: http://www.emachines.com/support/pro...es&model=T4852

Not hard to find the drivers using the manufacturer's sites but still it would be nice if they had downloads for their current and recent models.

Here are some specs for your machine. In the left pane, under the heading Links are lots of information. Click on downloads and scroll down the page and there are drivers and the board manual.
