About a week ago I turned on my computer like normal, however while my computer was starting up the monitor was showing no picture and stayed on "Power Saving Mode". I tried for several days playing around reconnecting all my cords and trying to reboot my computer but I still had the same problem. However periodically (1 in 30 times) I got a picture on my monitor, everything booted up, but my keyboard and mouse were not working.
I spent the whole time thinking there was a problem with my monitor or there was a connection inside my computer that was wrong. Then today I tried changing mouses. Sure enough once I changed mouses my monitor showed picture perfectly fine and my keyboard and mouse are working fine. Whenever I try to put my old mouse back in, the monitor doesnt boot up, and as soon as I switch mouses everything is fine.
You are probably thinking well just throw out the old mouse and use the one thats working but the thing is the mouse that isn't working is a wireless Logitech mouse that I really like using and the one I'm using right now is an old IBM mouse that has no control. I've never heard of anything like this before in how a mouse can affect the monitor.


Has anyone ever heard of something like this before, and is there anything I can do to fix it? I like using my Logitech mouse, so if there isn't anything I can do to fix this one should I buy a new one or will it give me the same error?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

The Mouse is likely to be USB, and if the mouse circuitry has failed it can indeed cause a failure to boot when connected. In the case of a wireless mouse it would be the send/receive unit.

As can corrupt drivers for the USB I/O motherboard chipsets.

It does have a USB plug in, but is it just the mouse that had the error (and buy a new one) or should I get my computer checked out to get fixed?

You will not know which to do until you try another USB mouse.

You fail to mention if the "old" IBM one is USB or PS2 connected. If it is USB, then plainly the mouse sended unit is stuffed and you need a new wireless mouse complete.

If the "old" mouse is PS2 (round plug) then you need to try another USB mouse to see if the fault is in the PC or its software or in the mouse hardware.

Unless you try another USB mouse you will not know where the problem is.

Logically if there is no problem with another USB mouse then buy another wireless mouse.
Or, if another USB mouse gives the same problem, the fault is in the PC or its software...

Only you can determine that.
