cpu fan slows
I have an HP with a trigem MB. Everything is good except when I start the computer, the cpu fan runs at a fast speed until the win xp welcome screen appears. It then slows down to a very slow rate. The fan is new and works fine on other boards. What could cause this slowdown only in windows. If I enter bios to check temp of cpu, the fan is running at a fast speed at that time so temp is good. I am worried that this slowe fan in windows will ultimately result in overheating. The fan is plugged into the cpu fan plug on MB.
Thanks

Some PCs do this by design, . Post your HP model and we can check it.

Perfectly normal. The BIOS regulates the fan speed due to the temp' on the thermal diod. Run SisoftSandra and you'll see you (usually) can hear the CPU fan spool up during a burn in.
