Mysterious Upside Down Graphics
Hello,

Recently I went on a trip and brought my computer with me. While on vacation, my computer worked fine - but after returning home and setting up my computer a strange glitch happened. All of the graphics displayed by my computer are upside down! I've already called Microsoft tech support and they suggested I update my video card drivers. I installed the newest drivers and checked all the video card settings so I'm sure that my video card is properly displaying graphics. I asked a friend at work and she told me that I should buy a new video card. I decided to listen to her advice, and bought a Nvidia GEFORCE 8600 GTS and hired another co-worker to install it. This, obviously didn't solve the problem.

I have a theory of what could have possibly caused this glitch. Right before I came home, I opened a mysterious e-mail from a person who CLAIMED to be a co-worker. I downloaded some pictures and a .doc file, but neither of them opened and my computer told me they were "corrupted". Could this be the root of all my problems? If so, how can I fix this?

Thanks, John

P.S. Click HERE to view a picture of my broken computer.

you must be icelandic!

The solution is so simple and obvious! Just stand on your head when you use the computer!

In the picture it looks like your monitor is upside down..

I mean, look at the "Gateway2000" sign. It is oriented the same way as "Windows" is on the screen.

If you would rather not stand on your head or turn the monitor upside down, try an CTL+ALT+UpArrow key combination on your keyboard. From what I have read, this a display feature for tablet PCs that some video controller chip manufacturers include in non tablet desktop video controllers.

EDIT:

Didn't look at the picture before posting the above reply. Between that picture and fairnooks' reply, I am starting to wonder if it isn't April first all ready.

I tried CTRL+ALT+Up and it WORKED! Thanks so much! Here's a picture of my new WORKING computer!

You still have the monitor upside down. Is that good for monitors?

Did someone try to play a joke on you by turning the monitor upside down while you were on your trip? If so, the joke is on them if they see a "normal" screen orientation.

Although this is somewhat embarassing to say, I have no "real life" friends, I don't live with anyone, and I had no co-workers over before the problem happened.

I don't believe it could have been a poltergeist. My house has been certified "ghost proof" by 3 different professionals.
