Display failed but probably not Video card
Displayed suddenly failed with blank screen and "no signal" showing at start up, the monitor has been tested and OK, all leads rams and cards all seated OK. The motherboard and video card both seem OK as powering up with the fans running, and no beep codes on start up. I assumed (wrongly) that video card has failed and bought a new Nvidia 512mb 8400GS but the problem remains. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.

try resetting bios with jumper or popping battery out for a minute or so
other than that I'm thinking something is wrong with the psu and its not passing the post, and yes fans might run but power not right for the MB to keep going

Hello Brite750,
Tried popping the battery but no effect. Will test the PSU as soon as I get hold of replacement PSU. Will report result soon.

Hello Brite750
Just tried with 400w PSU but still no joy. Am I right in concluding that it is the motherboard that has failed??

the test for a MB is to have only the PSU, MB, CPU+hsf and gfx, no drives plugged in no other pci cards etc., leave the ram out if MB doesnt beep that a pretty good sign th MB is dead, now you do have to have the MB speaker plugged in of course
the best test is to replace the MB if pc works then it was the MB

Tested MB as advised, fan runs but no beeps so MB def dead. Now off to buy a suitable replacement MB but I have learned a few things in the process which is good. Thanks Brite750 for taking the trouble to reply and thanks also to Techguy for hosting the forum.
