Solved: USB Audio device causing all programs to stop initialising until unplugged.
Hi everyone,

I am trying to use a Nikkai VoIP conference hub, that has a built in mic and speakers.
It started to install it fine, after XP installing it as a USB Audio device some audio and mic work fine. Great.

But then XP tries to install the HID-compliant consumer control device driver, and it just sits on hidserv.exe. I had to cancel the install at hidserv.exe.
The installation process said it was installed properly, and it seems to work still as a mic and speaker.

Only problem is that I have to unplug it until i want to use it, otherwise all other programs will not load.
i.e. If its plugged in, and I double click a program it won't start. As soon as i unplug the VoIP hub the program(s) start.

Anyone? This is really annoying...
I'm sure it has something to do with fact that the HID-compliant consumer control device driver couldn't be installed.

I've tried it on a different USB port, and once again:

Installs the device as a USB Hub, Audio and Composite.
Then the New Found Hardware wizard appears.
It installs the USB Human Interface Device drivers, Continue Anyway at the non-Windows Logo testing prompt. Finishes that part.
Onto the
HID-compliant consumer control device drivers, sits on hidserv.exe.

If unplugged the wizard says the install in complete.

In Device Manager, the HID-compliant consumer control device properties says that the device is working properly, and the driver is C:\WINDOWS\system32\hidserv.dll (v.5.1.2600.2180)

So i'm not really sure why I am getting issues...??

Ok, i solved the problem.
Step 1: Unplug cheap un-named conference hub.
Step 2: Take it back to Maplins
Step 3: Exchange it for one that costs a little bit more (£10 instead of £5), that includes a driver CD
Step 4: Watch it go!

I got a U.S. Robotics 9610, which works just great.
I can have Skype running independantly of my proper sound card, and it matches my other desktop peripherals (wasn't the reason for buying it, just a happy co-incidence!)
