Question Problems with drivers after format.
Hi, first time use for me here. Hope you ppl can help!

I did something im already begining to regret. Formatted my hard drive fully and forgot all about drivers. I dont have a disk apart from early xp professional. system restore was out of the question too.

I have a Acer laptop, 5630. 1.83GHz duel processer. 2GB of ram.

My problem is, when i formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows I forgot to backup drivers . My wireless card no longer turns on at the flick of a button. Altho ive downloaded and installed the driver from the acer website.

On the device manager, i have several things with a yellow !. I dont understand what most are and was confused as 1 of them is a standard floppy disk controller and the laptop doesnt have a floppy drive.
SCSI/RAID Host Controller !
Intel(R) 82801G(ICH7 Family) PCI Express Root Port - 27D0 !
Intel(R) 82801G(ICH7 Family) PCI Express Root Port - 27D2 !

there are also mass entrys for motherboard resources which i dont recall seeing there before my format.

Sorry for this being breif in what you would need to know. I will be happy to reply with any info you ppl need asap. cheers for reading and hope you can assist.

Have you checked the Acer site? They are pretty good about drivers and you'll find all you need there.

looks like you need to load your MB chipset drivers and/or usb drivers

Try here:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...d=3394#results

The drivers you mentioned may be part of the "chipset" or "mainboard" package.

Chipset should go first. After that, it really doesn't matter.

You could also try Windows Update for basic drivers that may be missing. Right-click the device in Device Manager, Update, and allow it to look on the net.

FWIW, I never search for drivers before installing since I think it's a waste of time. Drivers can be found after installing.

But the one exception is the driver for connectivity. You need the modem or network to look for drivers after the installation is finished.

For the future:

DriverMax
Driver Magician Lite (mirror)
Driver Collector
WinDriversBackup
Double Driver

And for now, in case some of the devices are not Acer devices, and even for more details on your system to aid in finding drivers:

PCWizard
System Information for Windows (SIW)
Belarc Advisor
Mitec System Information

Ahoy, Checked those out and i'm still the non wiser. Do you have any idea how i would get my wireless working. On properties in the intel pro/wireless card i can switch it on there but its still not working, the led on the front of the machine also doesnt work. Sorry for being a pain, I dont know what else to do. Would you recomend using a driver update service that updates all drivers at a cost? Ive not used them before but am considering it.

what is a wireless card is it a different company than acer? does it require its own drivers or something to be installed

OK. Let's look at this methodically and see what you need. Open Device Manager and note any devices that are red or yellow. What are they? What message does each give you when you look at the properties?

Use PCWizard (or something else) to find the exact make and model of your network card.

Its a intel pro/wireless3945abg. I've installed drivers but still not working. I think its somekind of power issue or the pc not recognizing it properly somehow ?

Ok in device manager....

scsi/raid host controllers (yellow!) - properties - Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Intel(R) 82891G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express root port - 27D0
- proerties - This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

And the same for
Intel(R) 82891G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express root port - 27D2
Intel(R) 82891G (ICH7 Family) PCI Express root port - 27D4

I might also add there are mass entrys for motherboard resources too.
