Post Overclocking a Q6600 with 600w PSU, ZEROtherm BTF90
So here are my major compounts:
  • Q6600 Core 2 Quad Processor [2.40GHz per core stock]
  • XFX Nvidia 680i LT SLI Motherboard
  • 8GB DDR2 800mhz Dual-Channel RAM [OCZ]
  • Ultra X-Pro EE 600w APFC PSU 130mm Fans Black
  • x4 RAID 0 400GB SATA 7200rpm HDD + x1 250GB SATA 7200rpm HDD
  • Nvidia 7600GT 256mb Dual-DVI Video Card [Will upgrade soon]

I walked though the bios and saw adjusting clock speeds and voltages was reletively easy. I'm not really interested in blowing my computer from overvoltage, is it better that I adjust the clock speed manually?

Will overclocking shorten my CPU's life?

Chances of blowing th ecomputer are pretty much not a lot. The worst that will usually happen is that you adjust the BIOs settings to o/c, and it doesnt boot. That will need a CNMOS reset, more than likely, although some boards will auto reset.
As for ocing, the short answer is yes, it will reduce CPU life. However you need to bear in mind that you are going from a 10 year lifespan to a 5 year (for example), so in real terms it wonr have that much effect
