ok what you will need to do is

1) turn off the pc
2) remove power cord from behend pc
3) remove graphics card from motherboard
4) replace graphics card into motherboard ensuring you seat it correctly and firmly
5) Replace power cord - turn on pc
6) if this doesnt work then maybe your power supply has died (try another)

You could have nudged it, maybe the graphics card was loose, you didnt switch the pc on without the fan beeing attached to the heatsink did you?

Just give it a go mate these things happen all the time, i think it may be advisable that you take all your parts out and reseat them again. If you do take off the heatsink from the cpu you will need to clean it and put some thermal greese on it dont forget that otherwise you will end up having more problems.

Thermal greese i recommend = Arctic Silver 5

Ok firstly if you have a thermal pad underneath the heatsink then no you do not need any thermal greese, but if you dont have a pad then hell yes you need the greese. Basically when your HS sits on the CPU there are small very tiny gaps that remain and these gaps will not allow a good transfer of heat from the CPU to the HS, the purpose of the HS is to absorb the heat from the CPU and expel it out vis the fan. Also you cannot properly transfer heat from metal to metal, the thermal greese acts as a inbetween, its properties allow it to 'fill' the gaps are also absorb heat much quicker and transfer it much faster to the HS.

If you do not us ethe greese then your cpu 'could' start to overheat and you will run into major problems. you could potentially damage your cpu. the greese is so cheap that it isnt even worth depating wheather to use it or not, its essential that you do.

While you are there i would also consider removing the fan from your HS and getting a replacement, this should also be very cheap.

money is not an issue
the problem is the lack of expertise here about comp hardware....so i dont wanna risk causing any major issues....

however what could be the reason for my processor fan not being able to unplug?

all i need to do is just turn the levers on either and just pull the fan out, right?

ok thats good, and we will all try and advise and help you as much as possible for you to learn... Depends on what type of fan it is, does oi

it could be screwed down like this

or cliped down
http://www.3cvillage.com/cayman/imag...m-sock-a-a.jpg

which one of these is it?

sorry rushed the pictures, ok basically does your fan have screws going into them? or does it have a sort of clamp on two sides of it?

If you pc is running well now, maybe leave it alone for a while and see if the problem comes back. Hopefully it will not.

1. ok now the noise has stopped coming. i dont know how, havnt done anything abt it....it just stopped....is that fine or are there other issues to come??
and i suppose the noise was not from the processor fan but from the fan at the back..of the CPU..

2. and also, the heat sink....i could not understand how it has been attached....not screwed, nor clamped down....but attached in some way

however need to clean up the dirt over the heat sink, how do i remove it to clean it....

would be great if i could get an answer for all the concerns above....

ok so the sound has gone, and you say it was not from the Heat Sink Fan but from the back of the CPU? ok i think you mean the back of the case? as in the rear case exhaust fan?
to check if this is the problem when the noise apperas again just tap the back of the case where the fan is and if the noise goes for a second then the fan is the culprit, just get a replacement.

The heatsink will not be screwed down to the motherboard it will be cliped onto it, the fan is screwed down to the heatsink. you will need to examine it to see how, maybe remove the fan from the heatsink so you can get a better look. usually there is a metal bar that fors from one end of the heatsink to the other and clips down to the board at either end. you will need to remove the HS from the board when you clean it, use a cotton bud or a brush to remove the dirt from it. Dont forget to use some artic silver before replacing it (providing there is not a thermal pad underneath it).

maybe a take a picture of your motherboard and heast sink and put it on imageshack so that we can take a look and tell you how to remove the HS.

i suppose its the rear fan only because the sound is not coming anymore..

not sure how to remove the heat sink..
i however suppose that it has the thermal padding because i have been using the comp since 3 yrs..

will try to post a pic in a couple of days..
