Weird sound from the motherboard
Hey
i am getting a weird sound from the processor....
it sounds like the sound from the movie "THE GRUDGE 2" which is due to breaking of the neck of the woman in it, the only thing is that the tempo is a little high so the sound goes faster....apologies abt this but this was the best example i could give

what could be the problem and what could be the future problems that could be faced.

are you sure about that?

what are the implications in the future of any such damage....??

P.S. - the noise stops after a while once the comp is on....
the noise comes if the comp is off for some time, say an hour or so, and then i turn it on....

noisy
To make a test to see if it is the fan [heat sink] dis connect the power lead to fan and turn on system but only for a short time. If the fan fails the processor will over heat and cause system to shut down and cause damage.

ok firsly have you opened the case and tried to visually inspect the heatsink and fan, maybe even look at them and then turn the computeron, do not however tounch anything while the pc is on...
try to estabish exactly where the sound is coming from, check for dirt in the heatsink itself, maybe the fan is damaged, i wouldnt disconnect the fan from the HF tho as it could cuae damage to your processor. What i would do, providing you have isolated the problem/sound to be coming from the processor area, is completly remove the HF and clean it up and replace it (applying thermal greese) you say the sounds goes after the computer bing on for a while, hmm could be the fan on the HF.

Well until you inspect the motherboard and check where the noise is coming from and have done some investigations for yourself no one can really be 100% about what the issue is, my suggestions above are possible solutions to what i 'believe' the problem is.

as i said open the case get close to it and press the powe button you should be able to home into where the noise if comming from and then you can visualy inspect that area and try to establisg what could be causing it the post back and we will attempt to help.

Well it could be something like a fan making a noise from cold boot i'd imagin then. If the sound does not appear after all the time or when the computer is restarted then id imagin a cold boot, Now having said that my computer also makes a pretty loud sound like a buzzing if you like when i first start it up, this is because my cpu fan does not spin immediatly when starting the comp as soon as the fan does start then the sound goes this isnt a fault by the way its to do with the fanspeed controller not detecting any heat on the cpu and therefore not spinning obviously because the computer has been off for a while. This could bet he same thing as your problem. could be the same thing. What you can do if you want is unpluf the internel speaker from your motherboard just for a while, while we test to see if this is the problem. Then switch the comp on (after say 2 hours) and see if you hear it again, if not then its most likesly to be the same as my computer, if you do still hear it then its most likely some hardware.

out if interest what motherboard and cpu do you use? also are you using a stock heat sink or an after market one?

ok cold boot is when you switch your pc on after its been sitting off for a long period of time, therefore everything if cold. Sometimes people have trouble with their pc's not being able to boot from cold this is usually due to a weak or faulty power supply, however there could be other reasons. Also fans may not be able to function properly from a cold state (if their failing) and therefore make a noise until they warm up.

Your internal speaker may have a yellow and black wire coming off it, if you do not know here it is then i'd suggest reading the motherboard manual, if you dont have it then download it from the manufacturers website once you have identified your motherboard heres how to do it.

Download SIW from the internet http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html
download the standalone version, run it and under motherboard note down the make and model, under cpu do the same.

once you have done that you can go to the manufacturers website and get hold of a manual.
