Okay... I have the first version of the "Solo" - it used to be the P150, since its a more mainstream layout version of the P180 without a door cover. Mine is piano white. Its a very good case... looks like I'll be bulding another one this week or next Especially with it on sale for $50 after rebate.

Jamesx121: PNY = more or less the same as anyone else. What the choice is for a video card is support and cooler style (fan, fanless, big-fan, overclocked)...

Sorry to hear about the 5200... ugh. I still remember someone posting on tech board about buying a 5200, but was confused as to why his PC was saying "Ti4200". His box said 5200, but someone did a return/swap. What makes it funny, the Ti4200 was easily about twice as fast as the 5200... so this kid got a better card and the idiot who "cheated" the store got a severe downgrade!

No Commodore74... It was the Commodore64. I still have my C=128.

its been so long ago I can't remember where I got the old C64.
if I remember right mine had a single stand alone disk drive. can't remember
if it was single side or not.

my sister had a Apple 2 given to her several years ago

personally I didn't get into computers until the Pentium3 was already out

that's why I thought about trying to make money building computers myself,
but I don't know way enough about all the software out there.
my school didn't offer machine language or C+
I don't know what computer language they teach in school these days

There is little money made in making computers... In the OLD days like the 90s, a typical PC was $2000. Profit margin was about $300~500 per computer.

Nowadays... with HPaq/Acer/Emachines sellings systems for as low as $300 with Vista & 1GB of RAM... how can anyone make a profit when the big guys are already making almost nothing per computer?

You can't. Unless you convince someone that what you are going to do is way better. Some people would rather buy a computer from a person rather than a company especially if you are getting the people new to computers or the computer illiterate, and want to help them with it. Promise good tech support!!

There are few "newbies" out there... but novices, plenty... and what the avg person wants is a $400~500 computer that'll go to myspace and youtube

I rarely build a sub $1000 computer, it's only for a friend or someone I know. And if its a -$500PC, I tell them to go buy an HP. I'm not going to build something with sub-standar parts to make a $300-400PC. Now when I build a $2000+ computer (rare), I am able to make a good amount of money for my time... The last one was $1950 with 24" LCD, much cheaper than the $2800 Dell he was about to order (with a 22" LCD), and he got actual WindowsXP CDs too. Dell didn't offer an XP version for that particular model anyways.

This build is actually for a friend who was going to go with some other website and I told him I could easily build one cheaper. That site was going to let him put to SLI cards on some crappy motherboard that wasn't going to support it. Right now I'm like 200 dollars under their quote. And you know who you're getting it from, and you know you're gonna have great customer service from a friend.

Thats cool... You've chosen better parts for him, we've given you ways to make it even better - you're friend is coming out way ahead.

I'm speaking more of "just everyday people" - you have some small TV shop or sign on your truck... people want to get HP, etc that are available everywhere and something with quality for $400. Not saying HP is junk or great for $400, but sellings 40+ million PCs a year gives you buying power to get okay parts for low prics.
