jamesx121,
quote:
I have both a HP PSC 1610v and a HP Photosmart C5280 All in One
to install no (A) drive diskette was required.
no inserting 4 to 5 disks.
no way that's antique way.
even windows no longer ask to install on (A) drive diskette

begging your pardon,
from a cd on an initial installation,
with all the software, etc.
i agree with you,
BUT, apparently you didn't READ what i had written,
DOWNLOADED drivers are a whole 'nother thing,
just downloaded drivers for my sister this morning for hp 1018-1020,
[she's still on dial-up],
was why i posted what i posted
they sure did come as a self-extracting-executing .exe
AND WENT ONTO 4 [FOUR] FLOPPY DISKS!!!!!

less hassle down the road with other programs if windows is installed on the (C) drive.

but if you want to leave windows on your (I) drive----
I'm telling you you can change the file folder install location to (I) instead of (C)

you just need to install custom or advanced.
You are absolutely right!

Whew, I can't believe all the replies since my last post! Well, I reformatted and reinstalled XP. It's now on C:/ like it should've been to begin with. Wish I'd known before I'd installed all my stuff (Adobe, RealPlayer, Nero, my documents, pictures, etc.). At least it was only 4 days worth of things and not 4 months worth. Part of what made everything so difficult was the amount of software that wants to install on C and only C. I now have my printer drivers installed and the printer is working! Maybe in a couple of days my computer will be back to the point it was at before.
