hanging start up with external drive

750GB Western digital External USB Hard Drive
Uppon start up it "locks,Hangs,freezes" at auto detecting usb mass storage devices
There is nothing in the BIOS about USB functions, or legacy USB
When it is not plugged in i can access the BIOS
I cannot while the drive is plugged in.
