USB 2.0 problem
ok, so let me start by saying that I have tried just about everything i can think of short of taking my MB back to the store to have it replaced.
I bought it about a month ago and since then, have not been able to get usb devices to work via 2.0. Mouse and KB well frequently lock up, until unplugged/plugged in, ext Hdds encounter r/w failures with various error msgs, even my PSP has problems, and this is where I initially noticed a problem existed. With the psp, there is a message that tells you when a usb connection is present, also there is a moving bar when there is usb activity, usually file transfers. When plugged into my usb 2.0 port(and yes, the PSP is usb 2.0 compatible) and i attempt to transfer files, i can see the file start to transfer, then stop, connection drop, connection re-establish, transfer resume, stop, connection drop again.... over and over until i get an error saying there was a write failure.
The thing that makes me sure this is isolated to only usb "2.0" is that all usb devices work fine(minus the low speed warning) when plugged into a usb 1.1 hub.

I have tried several things to fix this including:

Updating/deleting and reinstalling drivers several times
purchasing a larger PSU
trying various usb cables
and probably a few other things i cant remember at the moment

So any ideas would be welcome at this point. My next step is to call Asus and see what they recommend, then its back to the store.

So I just got off the phone with Asus tech support. After trying a few things, they determined there is a 90% chance its a driver issue. They think the mainboard drivers and windows drivers are conflicting with eachother, and the only way they can suggest fixing it is to reinstall windows, and then reinstall the drivers. Sounds like a fix-all solution to me, and not very appealing either. If it IS a driver issue, there has to be someway to isolate the conflicting drivers, and reinstall them. So far, other than an ethernet card, there are no conflicts showing up in device manager. Anyone know a way of finding driver conflicts that windows cant see?

the ASUS tech probably went over this but are your bad usb2.0 devices you are
having trouble with---
hooked to the back I/O port panel or the usb slots in the front/top of your case?

if front/top---- I wonder if you got the usb wire cables from the front/top of your case hooked up incorrectly to the "front usb header" pins

that's my 2 cents worth.

the ASUS tech would have known if you had the correct driver versions listed
in device manager.

this is real stupid but---------
how old is the case you put the motherboard in???????

if old see if you can find a spec sheet for your case.
the case might have been made before usb 2.0 came out on the market.

in that case you need a new case that is usb2.0 compliant with the front/top
usb ports

hey thanks for the reply.

The case is rather new actually, though i couldnt tell you when abouts...

However, this problem is not isolated to the front ports. Rear ports do it aswell.

Tech support did confirm that i have the correct drivers installed, but claims windows is conflicting with them(since when does windows NOT conflict with.... anything?). I cant believe however, that reinstalling the OS is the ONLY way to fix this.... drivers should be able to be reinstalled. or maybe tweaked to work correctly.
hmmm.... I dunno
