USB systems malfunction on WINXP
My USB system on WinXP SP2 is enabled but suddenly :-) stopped working completely. ALL Devices in USB section are yellow marked with description "Could not load driver, driver is probably damaged or missing".

I have tried a lot of steps:
1) removed drivers an let WinXP to reinstall
2) reinstalled drivers from motherboard install CD
3) let driver detective to confirm that drivers are current
4) installed PCI card with additional USB ports + drivers exactly according to its install manual - same problem with new device occurs
5) disabled USB in BIOS and let working only USB on external card
6) uninstalled nVidia drivers, changed nVidia mainboard to mainboard with VIA chipset and installed via drivers
7) checked that Microsoft drivers in driver cache are OK by SCF /scanonce
8) scanned with AVG antivirus and with PCT Spyware Doctor

I have added 2nd RAM module to MB, cca 2 weeks before problem occurred but it was the first step to remove it when I find the problem.
I have installed ICQ to comp when it was working and completely removed it when trying to solve USB problem.

Would you have any suggestion how to activate USB drivers except installing plain WinXP??

Have you attempted to do a system restore yet? If not, try that.

Unfortunately there is no restore point before the date when problem occured. (It took few days to do all mentioned steps, 2weeks holiday, 2weeks some medical problems)

So do you have an external drive with an Operating System running off it?

No I have not tried plain system, but I expect, that it has to work. I have many apps installed and change of matherboard was less pain than complete reinstall. Problem has to be software related, if motherboard change did not help.
