Firefly - its been a while, yeah its widescreen - but perhaps it was still broadcast full frame. I'm pretty much sure it was that.

ER: Watch the first few seasons of ER. Not wide screen.

Star Trek TOS was filmed in the 60s. TV wasn't wide screen.

HD is 720 or 1080.

It might have been since they could have produced a 4:3 version for TV broadcast. I've never seen the show broadcast on TV but I rented the series on DVD.

ER in HD is broadcast in native HD and is in a 16x9 format. If there is a non-native HD broadcast of ER, it will be pillarboxed.

Yep and if those shows (the ones broadcast in the 60s) are broadcast in HD, they will be pillarboxed.
