Question USB Hardrive Wont Connect (Again!)

Hey everyone,

I have this reoccurring problem with my USB hardrive. I purchased a ICYBOX 150GB USB Hardisk and filled it full of films, music and all the other crap I don't want to store on my PC.

The other day I went to backup all my docs and noticed that when I plugged in the USB cable into my PC I did not get the icon on the system tray saying its connecting the USB drive. So I checked that the power was connected and the USB drive worked by plugging in a flash drive - All working.

So I reboot my PC this time with the USB drive connected and left for 20 minutes whilst loading XP. No icon on the system tray and I could not find the drive on My Computer. But this time I did notice that the power light (on the USB Drive) was intermittently flashing. At this point I started to get worried so I attempted plugging in my USB drive onto a friends laptop - No joy

Is there anyway at all to recover any of data of my USB Drive? I have heard of a app that can force the drive open, will this work for me??

Please help as i ihave all my pictures from the last couple of years stores here and i don't have another backup.

Again your time to read this is MUCH appreciated. God bless

This probably sounds stupid and all, but did you check the drivers, maybe reinstall them? Or go into device drivers and see if Windoze shows all the drives there, if there's maybe a driver glitch.

I checked the device manager and i belive the drivers are working correctly. I cant see the icon when the drivers not working

I did recenly buy a USB 2.0 board to plug into my motherboard but i could not get this to work so just left it plugged in ( i dont use the ports on the card ) And i did have a problem with the drivers when i installed the card. Since this problem i have reinstalled my op and formated the harddisk so i doubt this is the problem.

Also the USB drive did not work on a friends laptop
