Question Solved: why is my computer so slow
I recently got pc problems why doing a system restore the power got turned off and when i turned pc back on my xp was no longer there...now i have been trying to reinstall windows xp and it is taking forever.....more than 12hrs.....soo slowwwwwwwwwww whats wrong is it my memory or my bios.....helpppppppppppppp

Have you tried testing the hard drive? If its a Dell it should have a built in Diagnostics by pressing F12 to bring up the boot menu.

windows taking 4ever to install
No I havent tried to test the harddrive it is a dell but i did try another hard drive and it was the same slowwww installation... as I speak my pc is still installing xp says 28mins left which could take hours its running so slow...im on a friends pc...by chance could my memory be messed up after the system restore being shut off by accident...this is when all my problems started....

System Restore cannot damage hardware, thats just a software thing.

But the RAM could be faulty, the Dell diagnostics have memory diagnostics as well as other system diagnostics you should run all those. You can also test the RAM with Memtest86+: http://www.memtest.org/

You should also check that the CPU heatsink and fan are fine, if the heatsink has come loose the processor will overheat and cause it to throttle down in performance.

Yes but the power turn off can surely damage the power supply, especially if it has happened a few times as they use, like most other makers, really crappy psu's that can't take too many jolts like that. I would bet that's the issue.

Yes, that is true. If the power was cut to the system, or when the power returned, it could have damaged the power supply or other components.

I would bet on memory being damaged or damaged cap..

checked tithe heat sink fan its working ok. windows is still installing says 8 minutes left...so just have to wait for when ever that 8 minutes takes.... to check hard drive and ram...how bout settings in bios would that slow my pc down if wrong

I wouldn't suspect BIOS. Personally I would suspect memory, a bad capacitor or possibly even the drive you are using to reinstall Windows.
