Solved: "No Audio Device"
I've googled this and I found a lot of threads so I think the regulars are probably bored of answering questions about it but when I read the threads I don't really know what they are talking about.

I just rebuilt Windows and now I have no sound, does anyone know how I can get the sound back?

When I look on Device Manager it says "the drivers are not installed for this device" for two things called "audio device on High Definition audio bus" and "video controller (VGA compatible)"

So basically can anyone help me, I really need to get this sound back,

Thanks, Jamie.

Oh and when I go into the Sound and Audio Properties it also says "No Audio Device", I didn't have a disc for the speakers when I first put them in and they worked fine but it would appear things are different now.

EDIT: I keep thinking of things to add, also... the screen is a little bit bigger than it was before I rebuilt, for example the start bar is slightly bigger and on MSN the smileys are stretched. I've right clicked on the desktop > properties and changed the resolution in settings and this is the best setting but it's still not quite right, this could be to do with the video thing without drivers but I'm not sure.

There is a simple fix. You need to install the drivers for the sound card (incidentally, you need to install the drivers for the video card too).

Trouble is, we can't help you unless you tell us what sound card and video card you have in the first place. There are literally hundreds. If the video card and sound card are built into your motherboard, we will need the motherboard's model.

Ok thanks for the reply!

How would I find out what type of sound / video card or motherboard I have?

you have several ways of finding out your motherboard model number

1) open your case panel to physically look at your motherboard and between the pci slots, or next to the memory slots, or next to the cpu should have the model number along with the version. if not go to "Start", "All Programs", "Accesories","System Tools", and "System Information" and on System Model you should have your motherboard model #.

Ok from that link I downloaded the video drivers so now the screen is sorted.

I also downloaded the sound one but I'm still not getting any sound coming out of the speakers.. Any more ideas?

Did you install your chipset driver before installing the other drivers?

The chipset driver is here;
