Desktop keeps shutting off
Hi all,

My desktop machine has been running fine for last four years from new and now all of a sudden it turns itself off suddenly.

This happens as it's trying to load XP Home. When the O/S flashes up a window with "loading personal settings" it is at that point it shuts off!

I've replaced the power supply but same keeps happening with the new one. I haven't installed anything new software wise nor hardware wise.

I've gone into BIOS and not changed a thing as I wondered if machine would shut off whilst in there - & yes it sure did too. So my friends I am here trying to gain insight into what could be causing this problem of the shut down before it loads XP scenario.

Many thanks for your responses.

Braz

First port of call is to take the side off your machine and inspect for dust in and around the CPU. If there is a bit of housekeeping to do....resolve. See if that contains problem. If that doesn't look at BIOS setting s for temperature of CPU. Sounds like CPU is overheating

Not if CPU is overheating - no - Can you get into Safe mode?

No I tried that and the same keeps happening. I'm beginning to suspect a fault with the CPU itself?

Will try to sort it across weekend or at least determine fault maybe.

Thanks again.
