Unhappy Laptop video to HDTV -- Help!
Hi, I am trying to send video from my HP Pavilion dv-5000 to my Samsung HDTV using a Dynex VGA PC Monitor Replacement Cable. They have the correct ports and the cables plug in correctly, but when I change the source on my TV to "PC," it says "Searching for Signals," and then after a few seconds, the screen goes black as if the TV were turned off. Does anybody know what the problem is? Thanks so much in advance!

Are you sure that is the right source to select? Try other ones too, usually the device you connect from is not the naming base of the source, but the cable/connection you connect with.

Well I'm fairly certain this is the correct one because the PC source isn't even an option until I plug the cable in.

The manual to the TV says that the video card might need to have its mode adjusted, but I'm not sure how to do that. My girlfriend also has an HP (running on Vista, mine is XP) and it works on hers.

I'd try setting ATI Catalyst Center settings. Try to set your computer to use two displays, then as(if) you have image on the TV, set the secondary display(TV) to be the primary display.

BTW: nice name love FF9

Ha, in all the years I've used Iron Tail Fratley as a display name, I'm not sure I've ever had more than one or two people recognize it. Thanks! And btw, I got the screen working, I just had to go to Display under the control panel and under settings, check the box for "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor." The problem with this is that it ONLY shows the desktop and nothing else. How do I make the rest show?

Display properties menú, settings tab, check extend desktop, then check use this device as the primary monitor. I'm not sure if this helps at all, as I did not fully understand what is the problem right now.

Well you're right, that does solve the problem in a way, but then I still have the secondary monitor here and I want both monitors to show the same screen

Hmh.. I don't know if ATI CCC could give a solution, but try this: open catalyst control center wizard from all programs/Catalyst Control Center, choose Quick settings tab, choose Display setup, then set the extended desktop configuration. I don't know if this will end you somewhere no use at all, for I do not have an another monitor so I could access this, but you'll propably find out.

Ah, I figured it out after messing with the control panel display option for a while. I had to turn that off and then go to advanced and display to set it to the clone option, that did it! Thanks for your help!
