new processor advice for old board
Hi, I have a 2.4mhz computer which keeps dying, goes straight to black screen, no action. there has been problems with this machine for a while wont boot occasionally with ram error no floppy working, I think MB is dying. I use this for graphics, photoshop etc .Anyway I have no money at the moment but my old system with asus CUSL2 mb is sat here with decent ram but its only 933mhz,Can anyone tell me if I can get a faster processor for this MB so I can use the old system for now and ditch the 2.4mhz.My laptop which is a 1.6mhz runs photoshop etc fine, so if I can up the power a bit for a few quid on the old reliable tower that would be great for now .Thanks sam

Unless someone offers a faster CPU - a 933 is about as fast as it goes... wont make much difference. With prices these days, I give away 3Ghz computers to family kids or friends from used parts or out-dated computers.

2.4mhz and 1.6Mhz? Man, those are way slower than a 1985 Amiga.
After 1000Mhz, we use Ghz.

Fix up the 933mhz, its not that much slower than a Pentium4.

Not much choice if the 2.4 is unstable... You could have incompatible RAM for the 2.4 if that is all it is. Both sticks should be the same.

thanks compiler, tried kingston, corsair etc 1x1gig, 2 x 512 all different slot configs, I think it is a mb problem with ram slots. This computer aint special anyway, Im better off skipping it and getting a better newer machine but as I say, no money at the moment and need quick fix.
