USB HDD device not recognized
Hi there,
I've recently bought a "Trandscend StoreJet 2.5 Mobile" 160GB USB HDD.
The details of the product can be viewed on the following official link of the product.
Link: http://www.transcendusa.com/Products...o=198&LangNo=0

Issue:
The problem i am facing is, the drive doesn't get detected.
As described in the manual its a "Plug & Play" device and doesn't need to be formatted.
Also, as i am using Windows XP professional it doesn't require to install any drivers.
I've also checked the Disk Management in the Computer management..but it doesn't show up even in there.
I've noticed that whenever i connect the HDD, it gives very low random beeps.
Sometimes after connecting it shows a bubble at the system tray,"USB device not recognized".
I've read the users manual thoroughly and also tried connecting both ends of the Y-cord USB cable in the computer for extra power..it still doesn't detect it.
When i tried connecting it on my friends' PCs it gets detected immediately and works perfectly.
Also, i don't have any issues connecting other USB devices like 4/8 GB pen drives or my mobile phone on my desktop computer..Kindly help.

System Specifications:
Desktop computer,
RAM: 256MB
IDE HDD: 160GB
OS: WIndows XP
Processor: Intel P4 (1.7GHz)

Thanx & Regards,
Saurabh Patil.

If you have tried it in all the USB ports and it doesn't get recognised then it could be your PC does not have high-speed USB 2.0

Was this PC store bought and if so what make and model is it?

Thanx a lot Megabite for ur replies,
well..this is a locally assembled PC..i am using Intel Chipset motherboard, with Pentium 4 (1.7GHz).
I don't think it contains USB 2.0
Is there anyway to confirm it?
Also according to the user's manual it's a Backward Compatible device with USB 1.1 & 1.0
So can it be the issue with the drivers?
I have following drivers listed under
Universal Serial Bus Controllers in the Device manager.

Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
