Okay I bought a Gateway GT5674 and I love it. I had a question though.. I have an old HP 511w hanging around, and I decided to take it apart (me being a newb at Hardware and stuff). I got the Hard drive out (which is an IDE) and I was wondering if it could be able to be installed on the Gateway.. So I opened it up and I saw that the HDD that was pre-installed was SATA.. Now i'm no Hardware Expert, but is there a way to get the IDE one in there without a Sata-Ide converter.. I was thinking maybe I could connect it to the IDE cable that is connected to the Optical Drive, and set it as slave.. or idk

Also, I was looking around in the motherboard and I saw a connector that looks like IDE.. Without the cable.. So maybe I can get the IDE cable from the HP511w and connect it there and set the hdd to Master..

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

There might be a floppy drive connector on the motherboard without the cable, but don't use that for an IDE device or cable.

Yeah... There usually aren't but one IDE connector on modern motherboards. And setting the HDD as a slave to the optical will cause it to run very slow. It will work, though. However, if you want more disk space, get a 7200.11 SATA 2 drive with at least 16 MB cache. 32 MB if you plan to get a 500 G or more of space.

Thanks for the replies guys.. I decided I'll rather buy another bigger SATA hdd instead of trying to get the IDE one in there (its only 40 gigs anyway..)
