as to possumbarns about my reinstall. i only get past the first options screen, then it says it cannot locate a hardrive and to make sure it's properly connected and functional, after this the reinstall says f8 to quit. i do not get past that to EULA

Please see my other post. It describes three methods that may resolve the reinstall problem: OEM CD, getting a compatible sata driver (As Rich-M also mentioned) or disable native sata support from your system BIOS.

There may be more methods but I only know of these three.

There are a couple of programs you can download that can tell you what kind of hard drive you have:
PCWizard 2008: find it at http://cpuid.com/pcwizard.php
SIW (System Information for Windows) will also work: find it at http://www.download.com/SIW/3000-208...dlPid=10826564

Either one of these will tell you what type of hard drive you have. Run them and get back here when you find out.

I was reading through this again and one thing I just noticed that I apparently didn't see before. Rochelle, you said you tried to do a system restore but the points only go back to June AFTER you installed directX9. What have you been doing with this pc since May? Kind of a long time span between now and then.
