Angry Get BSOD error and shut down when loading blank CD/DVD media
Hi all, hope someone can help me with this one....

I'm having issues when loading blank CD/DVD media (all types + and -
R/RW/DL). Most of the time the system auto reboots, sometimes I can load and burn, but rarely without multiple reboots from BSODs. Not consistent other then always happens with blank media of many vendors. Google searches say it's a hardware issue based on the error code. I have flashed the drives and they both use Windows drivers. One is a Pioneer, the other Iomega 16x DVD writers.

Here's the error code from the event viewer, it's a 0x8e code: Event ID# 1003.... Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 806e494f, parameter3 9cd1e4b4, parameter4 00000000.

Here's some other info I got from the Windows Debugger program for the
minidump file...

Can anyone tell me what the issue is an how to fix it?

Running WinXPsp2 with Norton NIS and Antivirus

Thanks!!

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.

SRTSP.SYS is a Symantec file. I would recommend you uninstall all your Symantec programs and run their removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039
Then try burning again and see if you are successfully.
As long as you have the license keys for your products you can always reinstall them again if you wish.

We'll also need to know you hardware specs, especially the make and model of the system or the make and model of the motherboard in the computer.

I'd try ripping Norton off and see what happens.

Do you mean turning auto-protect off.... instead of uninstalling to test it?

Ok, I uninstalled Norton and the issue went away. However, I need to have Norton to protect my computer, so what else can I do? I did get with Symantec and they had me install 2008, but now I still have the issue again, with the same file..... thanks....

BTW... other than uninstall and reinstall new version direction, they were no help! (Symantec that is, they don't show an issue with that file to help with). I also have SpySweeper, which I unintalled, but still have he issue....

Symantec usually is of no help, and their products really aren't that good as most people think. I never recommend their products anymore.

What burning software are you using? It may need an update.

Try updating the Intel chipset drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ition&lang=eng

And see if the Intel Matrix Manager will install on your system: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ition&lang=eng

You can also try running Windows Update to get all the Windows Updates, including Service Pack 3. Then run Windows Update using the Custom option several more times to get any additional updates.

Pinnacle instant cd/dvd... Which is supported any more... So no more updates for it... Besides Norton, what do you recommend?

AVG has a good suite that includes Antivirus, Firewall, and Anti-Spyware which Norton products are almost completely useless at. McAfee also has a good suite that includes all those features too.

Or you may be able to switch CD\DVD burning applications. Consider Roxio or Nero.

But do the driver updates and the Windows Updates and see if that helps.

Thanks. I had checked those updates and they are pretty old and aren't supporting past that update which I believe is 2006.

I'll try the other updates before I try another burning program.. Although, since I have the pinnacle suite, I may not be able to uninstall the InstantCD....even if I move to Nero which I hope won't me an issue....
