SATA to Molex connectors
so i bought a computer. then i bought a video card. i need to hook the video card up to my power supply unit but there are no unused power cables. so i figured i'd unplug my DVD player (bummer but whatcha gonna do). unfortunately my dvd player is a SATA plug and my video card is a molex plug. so i need an adaptor. preferably one that will allow me to plug in both my dvd player and my video card. i obviously need a female molex for the video card but i can't tell if i need a female or a male end for the SATA as it's not obvious (to me at least) which end i've got. can someone help me out so i don't have to return my video card/ buy the wrong adaptor/ etc.

thanks!!

I have seen molex to sata converters but not the other way around
If you have a molex plug you can use an adapter like this to create two molex connectors.

It would be a very good idea to post the exact specs of your system; ie what pw supply, video card, etc, etc.
It sounds very much like you have installed a high end video card into a system with a limited pw supply. This is just asking for a problem.

ack you're right. so my problem is i unwittingly purchased a small form factor computer w/o knowing that such a thing existed. my power supply is indeed a weenie little thing.

Acer Aspire X1200-U1520A
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64-bit); 2.5GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e; 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM; 256MB (shared) Nvidia GeForce 8200 integrated graphics chip; 500GB, 7,200rpm hard drive.

this is the video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102715

so my new plan is to buy a new power supply. the video card is too big to fit in the box but it does plug in so my plan is to put a new power supply in and not even worry if it fits well.

this is what i'm looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709012

is this gonna work?

thanks again!

Cheap PSU = problems. The cheapest 500+ watt PSU to consider would be a coolermaster at $50~60. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171016

Monitor your system TEMP when you install the parts - in a tight little case - it may overheat. The program below call PC Wizard should be able to read the CPU & Northbridge temps... write down their temps on idle & load.

That pw supply is junk. Do not even consider something like the one you linked to [unless you really like problems]

Next you posted you have a SFF case. You cannot just buy any pw supply and expect it to fit. You need to buy one that will fit in a SFF case.

What I would do; buy a quality case without a pw supply. Install a quality pw supply, your motherboard and other parts.

Doing what you are attempting is just asking for a problem.
