Question CD burner not working, Code 19 error.
I have a factory installed Sony CD-RW drive that stopped being able to burn CDs after I installed iTunes 8. In device manager, my CD and DVD drives have little warning signs on them, and come up with the error "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" I have used a Registry Editing program (RegistryFix v. 7.0) as well as manually gone and removed the Upper and Lower Filters from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM section of the registry. I uninstalled and rebooted, and still nothing. Any ideas?

Have you tried a System Restore?

yeah, no luck. I used the SONY rootkit fix from another forum and that fixed the registry, but my burner still isn't working.

Registry Fix is a registry cleaner and probably did further damage to your machine by removing registry entries after calling them "errors" when they were not errors at all. Never use those programs. You should restore your machine to a time before that program was used to restore the deleted entries. Or use the program's own backup. Using one of those programs when your machine is having a problem causes even more harm because it misidentifies more registry entries as flawed when they are not.

Have you tried uninstalling iTunes? Is your drive listed as compatible with the iTunes CD-ROM drivers?

What made you think that you had a rootkit infection?
