Computer freezing when playing high-end games
Hi,

I'm having a problem where whenever I play online games such as World of Warcraft or Lord of the Rings Online, my entire computer will freeze after a few hours. I was able to deal with this, but recently a new patch was release for World of Warcraft and now my computer can only run the game for less than a minute after logging in before it freezes. The computer completely freezes but you can hear everything in the system still running (such as fans and lights). I have no idea what the problem is. I tried updating my BIOS drivers today (hopefully i did that correctly) as well as my video drivers. I also did a memory test and everything was fine.

These are my specs:
P5VDC-MX Asus motherboard
Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256mb (agp 8x)
1 gig of ddr2
Pentium D 820
Rosewill AP-500x 450W PSU
Stock cooling on everything

The only thing that I can think of is to replace the video card... which i can see being the problem because i took it from a previous system that had most of its components fried when the memory was placed in the wrong way. The computer runs perfect when its not running high-graphics games, never freezing and running much faster than my dell.

Is there anything else that could be the problem that i should check out before i invest in an 80$ XFX Geforce 7600 GS?

Thanks in advance,
Steven

Sounds like the video card is overheating.

ok if the video card immediately overheats and crashes when i start WoW then what can i do to cool the card better, or should i just buy the 7600 GS?

You could try increasing the airflow inside the case or then buy an aftermarket VGA cooler (like, ummm... Can't find one for that card) Propably worth more buying a new card than getting a new cooler. First, try aiming a regular room fan towards the video card with your case side open and see if that helps at all.
