Exclamation Need New Graphics Card
Hey everyone,

I currently have a gateway performance series 700 computer, with a TNT 2 graphics card.

I have realized that to make the most out of my computer, i need a graphics card with a 3D accelerator and shaders.

Does anyone know what card of that description would run on my computer?
Cheers
James

Well need to confirm 100% whether it's AGP or PCI-Express (or just PCI) - but from checking a few sites, it seems it's AGP. If so, you're limited to what you can purchase - what's your budget? Do you game? Do you intend on gaming? If you're just looking for something to get you a bit more performance and you just go on the internet, etc.

Something like that would work, that's if all my assumptions are correct

It would be PCI or AGP as PCIe wasn't available during the TNT2 days if I remember correctly. It should be noted that even with that video card you won't be playing Crysis

What exact series 700 do you have? In all appearances (and cloudy memory), the TNT2 card should be an AGP slot 2x/4x.

Graphics Card...
Interesting thought...
In trying out some games, i came across 2 that i thought i might try.
The 1st, Oblivion, played well with the patch that enabled lower graphical req., however the second, WOW, would not play, despite needing lower req.

I have the graphics card with two slots, one small and one big, I think that is AGP.

I would be happy to spend what is needed, however if it is going to cost me more than a new pc, then I will buy a new one instead.

Honestly you can get an AGP card that'll play WoW type games decent, but it won't be great. If you really want to get something good, then build a new PC with a good video card. I was just aiming for budget there. Getting a AGP 7600 will be great to play WoW on as well as other games, but it sure won't do anything against Crysis or serious graphic intensive games - this one is $85 so not too bad.

Still need the computer specs....IF this is a plain Gateway 700, it may not accept anything more than "maybe" an old GeForce2 or Radeon 32/64MB card. The voltages are different on the AGP slots compared to the later systems.

the best agp card still available is agp 8x 3850 0r 3870 on newegg about $100 last time i checked about 2 months ago but thats agp 8x his is probably 4x is it backwords compatable? dont know thought they were different voltage or something. i would get a geforce 3 ti 500 if you can still find it on pricewtch or ebay that baby was my favorite agp 4x card ever could play elderscrolls morrowind maxxed at high frame rate. if its pci get a radeon 7000 or some other card from that era from ati.

if it is just pci might as well forget about games all together unless your gaming in opengl in linux then get a pci grapghics or agp graphics from ati or nvidia with as much onboard memorey as possible for highest resoultion.

that pc is a p 3 with a maximum of 384mb of ram. if your not using linux forget about 3d games other than quake 3 arena and if you are using linux your still streching it because its an older p 3 system. you should change thread to need new computer.

Thanks for your help, I am a lot closer than before.
I don't wish to play hard-sore graphical games, as I have a family computer for that, I just wish to play WoW type games on my own personal computer.
I think that I can find a suitable graphics card.
The computer is a 700 performance, not a normal 700.
Thanks
James
