Solved: rdram vs... everything, or a good supplier
i have an old dimension 8200 and i want to upgrade the ram because i finally discovered the gaming world of the internet and am hooked. i have (2) 256mb PC800 non-ECC 40ns RDRAM memory chips installed and with my winXP, it says i can install up to 2gigs (2 1gig chips).

since rdram is so old, i am having a hard time finding a supplier, so i was wondering if sdram or ddram, or anything else was compatible. i have all the latest (or last) bios updates, and my computer is working like a real trooper, as old as it is. i have an 80gig hard drive, and an external hard drive as well.

and if those are not compatible with my computer, do you know of a good supplier for rdram?

My dad still has a few TRS80's. Anyone want to help me sneak them to the dump?

There are a lot of places to get RDRAM; but be prepared to pay a lot of this outdated RAM. Try e-bay.

RDRAM is the only thing that works in an RDRAM slot. The slots are physically different.

Hey there,
Your computer only supports Rambus Dynamic RAM at PC800 (ECC or non-ECC) so you will not be able to install anything other than this type of RAM. The only upgrade you can make is size-wise, but sorry, i do not know where to begin with suppliers of it. Memory4Less.com is what i use for all types of memory, but that is because they are located very near to where I work (Anaheim, CA).
