Driver issue with my new external soundcard
As I am into music production, I went to buy a new MIDI keyboard and an external soundcard, plugged to the computer with a USB cable, called "Amon" from "Infra-Sonic" as the existing one would cause high latency. When it works, it works perfectly with clear sound and minimal latency, but when it doesn't, then it doesn't work at all.

The driver always seems to corrupt when I am running a program called Reason 4, sometimes after a few minutes of usage and other times maybe hours. It's getting really annoying as I have to plug out an plug in the soundcard to get it working again, and I have no intentions in doing that every few minutes/hours.

I'm running a clean install of Vista 32bit-version, and yes, the driver I installed is for both XP and Vista 32-bit. I've tried reinstalling the driver 4 times, but the problem doesn't seem to fade away.

Crap driver made by a crap company, maybe? I think it's a Korean one, and it wouldn't surprise me if a product from there has worthless quality. Or maybe something that might be wrong on my side?

If you feel that info is lacking, go on and ask.

When the device isnt working at all, have you checked device manager to see if it is still showing? Are you using the rear USB ports or the front ports? Does the unit have a separate power cable or is it powered through USB?

Its quite possible that the driver is junk, but it may also be a power issue. I have seen thermal issues with external sound cards, from Creative a "legitimate" manufacturer. Does the device have status lights on it? Do these change at all when you have issues?

I do actually not believe it is a question about lack of power, as the "USB Link" LED keeps on being lit. The unit is plugged to the rear USB plugs.

And yes, the driver still shows up in the device manager after going corrupt.

Hmm, is the device showing working properly under device properties? If you check the USB root hub that applies to the rear usb port (this is mostly guesswork) can you check to see the power draw of the device when it is working and when it isnt?

Just froma quick look on their site they seema relatively reputible manufacturer, so it might be worth giving their support a shot. Did you install the control panel app, and when it isnt working do you still see the device in that app?

The KB on the site is a bit limited, so I would suggest opening a ticket with them to see what they say. They may have a beta driver for you to try.

hope this helps...

If powered by USB, is it possible to power it externally?

Have you tried using it with all other USB devices unplugged? How about any updates to your chipset or USB hub drivers?

Sadly, it has no DC input so the only way to supply power to it is through USB.

I've contacted the tech support of the company, and I hope to soon get a reply.

It seems to have something with MIDI signal overflow to do. It seems like the soundcard isn't "powerful enough" to handle it. I have no clue why I bought this soundcard then, as there would be no problems like this with my internal soundcard.

Using Asio4All instead of the driver dedicated for my sound interface, there are no problems at all.

However, customer support is stating that this problem occurs when my USB port can't supply enough power to the unit.

My question now is, what to do in order to supply enough power to the interface? There is no DC input, so no way I can supply power to it with a DC adapter.

You could try a powered USB hub, and use it solely for the card- might be able to use others in it at the same time, but would have to try one by one. It has its own power spource, so should be able to supply enough power

Which one would you recommend? Any reliable makers for powered hubs?

Wow, can you actually believe that my internal soundcard that came with my MB works much better than the external one that I bought for 120 bucks? It seems to generate much less latency, and there are no hickups in sound during playback or while using Reason.

No way that this should be superior to my external AMON that is dedicated for music production. There must be something wrong with it. I have a hard time figuring out why they didn't mention I need a powered USB HUB anywhere in the instruction, just that I need to plug it in to an available port on my PC.
