Connecting a game system using comcast
my boss is using comcast at home to get ont the internet and his comp works fine. the thing is that he lives in a new condo with built in ethernet ports in the wall so all your supposed to do is plug it into the jack in the wall you want it to be in but it doesnt work. so my question really is, is there any thing special you have to do if you wanted to connect a ps3 straight to the modem using comcast high speed. i understand that i may need to put in the ip adress manually as well as the dns info and stuff and i know how to obtain that info but would you need to open ports on the modem if he is using a fire wall and if so how do you do it with a comcast modem.

also the setup in the condo is a bit strange compared to what im used to. mind you every thing im about to say is contained in a little cabinet that was installed by the contractors that built the place. the main line for the internet goes into the modem then to a strip that is on the wall there 8 ethernet ports on that strip it goes into #4. i assume that these ports are for the ethernet jacks installed in the walls in the condo there for if my assumption is right that the only jack that will work is the one that the modem is hooked up to. if possible i would like to hook it up to a wall jack that is provided and i understand that a router is need fro that which my boss has. and like i mentioned above his computer is firewalled and i will have to open ports on the modem or router to allow access to the router for peripherals. but to connect a ps3 straight to the modem am i going to have to enter the ip address as well as the dns info?

I cannot address the issue with the condo setup/arrangement but...
I have Comcast and have had no problem connecting my Wii and PSP devices. I use the Comcast RCA modem provided, connected to a Linksys WRT54g wireless router. The router is wired to the two desktop computers and wireless connected to two laptops. The Wii and PSP both connect wireless to the router. I was under the impression that the PS3 was also wireless capable.
