My CD player stopped working and it didn't show up on My Computer. I thought there was something wrong with the drive and I bought a new DVD burner. I installed it but am having the same problem. I am getting Code 19. If someone can help that would be great. I have looked this up but don't really understand how to reconfigure the driver, if that is what you have to do. (I'm a beginner, so I need a step-by-step). THANKS

Code 19 is given as one of the example error messages. A section about 1/3 down the page has a link for Guided Help to correct the registry entries.

Did you remove any CD/DVD recording software recently?

Try this fix for missing cd/dvd drives

Create a text file with NOTEPAD containing the following data exactly as below and name it FIXCD.REG
You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD.
1)Filename : fixcd.reg
2)Save as type: all files
3)Encoding: ANSI
If you do not change it from txt type to All files type, then the file will actually be fixcd.reg.txt, this won't accomplish the desired result

Double click on the file and say yes to the merge into registry question.
