Exclamation not enough standoffs?!
Hi All,

So I'm building a new rig and my mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131340 came with no standoffs. My board came with only 4 while there are about 9 holes on the mobo (all mobos). Does anyone know if I can order standoffs or what?

thanks

I've never seen standoffs come with a motherboard. Standoffs generally come with the chassis, and at times the standoffs will as such not be a "standard" lenghth since the standoffs may need to be longer or shorter than "standard" so the board aligns properly with the I/O shield.

Standoffs come with the case. Just think about it for a min; how would the board maker know what case you were installing into and what standoffs to ship with the board?

Next are you attempting to install this board into a standard atx type case OR are you using a dell, compaq, hp, etc case?

Chuck I almost always get standoffs with boards also along with cases and I think in the last year I have only seen one size used anyway. Now I only buy quality name brand better boards such as Gigabyte and Msi and only "retail boxes".

Rich I just bought a gigabyte board from newegg [amd 770 chipset] and it did not come with standoffs. While most are the "standard" brass screw in type, cheap cases use those spring type standoffs.

Interesting but I could swear I always get a little package with screws and standoffs with every board I buy. But the standoff size I am using really has not changed in years.

Rich, what length standoffs do you get with your boards?

I just buy Intel retail boards, and I don't ever recall receiving standoffs with the board. I believe about 11mm is standard, but a few days ago a poster was looking for some for a ThermalTake case that were 14mm.

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/7...fs-needed.html

I had a multitude of 11mm pieces, but only one 14mm and I don't even remember what case would have used 14mm pieces.

I usually just go to a local computer shop and get a couple of bags of mounting hardware.
The shop I go to here only charges a dollar a bag.
Usually takes 2 bags for a full size motherboard.
